Join us on Sunday, April 27 as we team up with Lisa Schibley, Manomet's North American Coordinator for the International Shorebird Survey, and embark on a survey of Plymouth Long Beach! Lisa will take us through the history of ISS, the significance of this community science effort, and let us know how we can get involved!

We will meet at the Plymouth Long Beach parking lot and carpool to out survey site down the beach. Here we will set up scopes and get our binoculars ready to ID and count shorebirds! We will learn the ins-and-outs of shorebird counting and how to make estimates of large flocks when counting each individual bird is too much!

To maximize the number of birds we will see, we will be at the beach during high tide. This means that there may be times when we need to walk through knee deep ocean water to get to our site. Please be prepared to do some beach trekking and be aware that you may get sandy and wet.

WHERE: 136 Warren Avenue, Plymouth, MA, USA

WHEN: Sunday, April 27, 2025; 11:15AM - 1:15PM

WHAT TO BRING:

  • Layers

  • Hat

  • Sunscreen

  • Water Shoes

  • Extra shoes and possibly pants for after the walk

  • Water

  • Snacks

  • Binoculars (we have loaners)

  • Scopes if you have them!

ACCESSIBILITY: We will be driving and walking on the beach. There will be times when we are walking through knee-deep water and along the sandy shore. We believe the bathrooms will be closed while we are there.
